How do you cross the San Diego border into Tijuana?

In order to cross into Mexico efficiently and without too much hassle, you need to be prepared and to know what to expect. Here are the steps that you’ll need to take:

Step 1: Drive to the Border

The first step is to make your way to the San Ysidro Port of Entry, which is the land border between San Diego and Tijuana. If you're coming from downtown San Diego, take I-5 South until you reach the exit for SR-905 East/Milagro Center Blvd. From there, follow signs for the port of entry.

Step 2: Get Your Documents in Order

Once you're at the port of entry, it's important to have all of your documents in order. US citizens will need a passport or passport card, while Mexican citizens will need a passport and a valid visa. If you're planning on driving into Tijuana, you'll also need to bring your vehicle registration and proof of insurance.

Step 3: Wait in Line at the Border

The next step is to waiting in line at the border crossing. This can sometimes be a long process, so it's important to be patient. Once you reach the front of the line, a Customs and Border Protection officer will check your documents and ask you a few questions about your trip.

Step 4: Enter Mexico and Enjoy Your Stay!

Once you've been cleared by the CBP officer, you'll be able to enter Mexico and enjoy all that Tijuana has to offer! Be sure to stay safe during your visit and adhere to all local laws and regulations. And when it's time to head back home, just follow these steps in reverse.

Where in San Ysidro can I get instant auto insurance?

When preparing for a trip to Mexico, it's important to make sure that you have the proper coverage for your vehicle. Unlike in the United States, Mexican law does not recognize policies from American companies

As a result, if you are involved in an accident while driving in Mexico, your American policy won’t provide any coverage. To make sure that you are protected, you'll need to purchase a Mexican policy from a company that’s licensed to operate in Mexico.

Fortunately, at Oscar Padilla Mexican Insurance, we offer a wide range of policies to fit your needs and budget. Before crossing the border, be sure to get a full policy from us. Call us today to see what we can do for you!
